U Rock Mojo 145

School's out, and both my girls are relieved and happy.  With a few exceptions, it was a good year.  My youngest is naturally gifted and school comes easy for her...it's the other parts she struggles with.  My oldest made the honour roll, and we are so proud of her.  I thought I should make up a couple of cards to let them know how happy we are of their achievements, and when I saw Julee's card here, well I felt a CASE comin' on!

The sketch is Mojo Monday 145, and I had this old paper pack on my desk, and I thought I would try to get one step closer to finishing it off.  It's Basic Grey's Urban Prairie...definitely one of my favorites, and honestly the one that got me hooked on Basic Grey's papers!  The rest is an eclectic collection of stuff.  The little love note paper is a sticker from SU that was destined for the recycle bin if I didn't use it right away.  The punch is Martha Stewarts deco shells, the sentiment is from  Gina K's Little Tees and the floral spray (looks like fireworks here!) is an Imaginesce snag 'em stamp.  I wrapped some Bermuda Bay ribbon around the belly and made a scrunchy flower set with a Basic Grey button.  To add a little sparkle, I finished with "Pink" stickles around the circle and on the flower spray.  Oh, and the sentiment is coloured in with a glitter gel pen.  It's kind of fun to just grab whatever works!

That's it today.  I have so much to do as we prepare to go camping for the Canada Day weekend, but I hope to get a few things done and scheduled for your viewing pleasure.  Have a fabulous weekend and stop in soon!  I really love it when you do! 

Summer Daisies and excuses

 

Well, I am going to start making excuses right off...before I get emails!  I don't know what made me think I could do my Technique Tuesday today?  Yikes, what was I thinking?  DD has her Christmas dance performance this evening and I work today...so like when was I planning on stamping?  In my dreams I guess.  Yesterday she had her rehearsal and I baked cookies for my oldest for her school bake sale...and somehow, I never managed to make it to my stamping room.

I do have a card to share!  Actually I made this card a couple of weeks ago for a Gina K sketch Challenge, that never did get posted.

I'm actually quite happy that I didn't get it posted, because it gives me something to share at a time when I really haven't had time to stamp at all!

I used "Flowers for Daisy" which I ordered this summer, and believe it or not this is it's first inking.  Ah, but you know, I just had to have it.  Now you know why I've had to institute my use it this week rule!

The flowers were stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and watercoloured with ink and aquapainter.  The sketch was fairly simple so I kept the card simple too!  The base is Summer Sun and I added Riding Hood Red and designer paper from Bella Rose.  Some Riding Hood Red taffeta ribbon and a couple rows of piercing finish it off.  Oh, and there is some Copper Stickles in the flower centres, but I couldn't pick them up on camera.  You can see a bit of the effect in the banner pic, but the effect is subtle in real life, so I didn't spend too much time trying to catch it for the camera.

I am hoping to get into my studio tomorrow.....I need to stamp!!!   As for Technique Tuesday...well I'm afraid to commit now, but I hope tomorrow!  I'll be doing tags for my Technique Tuesday this month, and I have some ideas that I'm looking forward to transferring to paper.  In the meantime, have a fabulous day and thanks for dropping by!  You know I love it when you do!

Weekend Sketch Set - Tee Talkin'

  

A couple of weeks ago, Melanie Muenchinger sent me an email and asked if I would like to do up a few samples with her newly released "Tee Talk" set.  Well I had one of those "Melanie Muenchinger reads my blog???" moments then after fanning my hot flash, of course I said yes!  I loved her "Little Tees" set and I knew "Tee Talk" would be so much fun to work with...and what better way to let my creativity roam than to do a Weekend Sketch Set!

So I did keep the same stamp set through out, and added a few more in between.  I didn't use the same papers throughout...or they would all be hunting cards LOL!  However, I did try to keep the colours close...so it still looks like a set.  A little different, but this is a special edition!

I'll do Taylor's first since I did get to preview it, and therefore saw it first!   I really like this sketch and I knew exactly how I would use it.  In fact, when I first saw Melanie's "Tee Talk" I ran out and picked up some hunting and camouflage paper right off!  See, my dh is an avid hunter, so I knew this set would be fabulous for masculine cards.  In fact all of the guys on his side of the family are avid hunters and fishers.  Perfect...I know that this set will see a lot of ink.  I showed this one to dh, and he gave it two thumbs up!!  

The designer paper is by Reminisce and I paired it with Always Artichoke and Basic Black.  I embossed the words on the Tee so they would stand out better.  Other than that the card is pretty simple.

 Beate's sketch is up next.  I was still on the masculine wavelength, so I pulled out "Classic Pick Up Truck" by Little Paper Shop and stamped it on watercolour paper and coloured it with ink and aqua painter.  I paired it with the sentiment "You're a Classic" from "Tee Talk"!  I love that these sentiments are sized small...and most of them fit in the small oval punch by SU!

Here's a more feminine card using Jen's sketch.  I have a niece who loves horses, so when I saw all the options for "Born to" in the "Tee Talk" set, I immediately thought of her.  If I had some motorcycle stamps I would have loved to work with "Born to Ride", but alas, another set for my wish list! 

I used SU's set "Wanted" for the design on the Tee shirt, stamping the horse several times before cutting it out.  I added a sentiment from "Think Happy Thoughts" and tied some Sage Shadow ribbon through a jumbo eyelet.

I also used this week's sketch #203 from SCS, because I had another idea that I wanted to get down on paper.  I couldn't resist the black board and apples theme for a "Worlds Greatest Teacher" card!  So there is a lot of red here that doesn't really fit with the set, but I did work with green and black!  I used the little apple from "Whimsical Autumn", it was just so perfect in size to work with the Tee and the little corners on this sketch!  I added some brads and that's about all here.  I did try it with some ribbon...check it out in the group shot.  I couldn't decide if it worked or not...so you can let me know!

  Ok, so now you're saying, where's Lauren's sketch.  Well this week Lauren is featuring one of her new Timeless Templates, and you know what...I don't have a printer attached to my computer downstairs, and it's pretty late here, so I had to pass on it. However her sample is so cute, it did inspire me, and this is what I ended up with.

I think this Christmas stocking stamp is the first stamp I ever bought!  It's by DJ Inkers, and I took a class at a stamping store and was inspired to purchase it... about 7-8 yrs ago.  I haven't inked it up since! 

I stamped the stocking on several different papers and pieced it together.  I added "Worlds Greatest Grandpa/Grandma" from the "Tee Talk" set to the stockings...a little different on each one...just for fun!

I created a 1" square box and attached it to the back.  Now, I should have, and probably will, attach the stocking to the back of the box.  However, since it's a stamp and not a template, the stamped part faces inward....so the back that faces out is blank.  That didn't sit with me very well, but I confess that the little box, which holds one Hershey's kiss, is a little off balance, and if Grandma or Grandpa actually ate the chocolate...well, these little guys would fall right over!  I think they're cute, and would make really fun table place cards, or even a hanging ornament.  I just need to work out a few kinks.  For the time being you're probably better off with Lauren's free template!

Two More Challenge Cards and a tale of perserverence

 

I've had this set for too long now.  Time to get some ink on it!  When Julia posted the Ways to Use it Challenge, I knew this was just the set I needed!

  The set is Gina K. Designs' "Summer Harvest".  It's a beautiful set with summer fruits, and most importantly cherries!  Julia's challenge was to use charms, and I knew I had a cherry charm so I went digging through the vast amount of charms I've collected over the years and sure enough...it was there!

I started with Riding Hood Red as my card base, and decide to work with Jacksonbelle Embellishment's sketch #19.  Since I was working with a cherry theme, I pulled out Bella Rosa designer papers, since they have lots of red in them.  I used scraps to piece together the layout on Pirouette Pink before adhering it to the card base, and tied Riding Hood Red striped grosgrain ribbon around the upper seam.

The branch of cherries was stamped in Versafine Onyx black then cut out in an oval shape with my Nestabilities.  It was coloured with an aquapainter and reinkers, and I added some Crystal Effects to add some shine and dimension.  The focal piece is layered on a scalloped oval in Riding Hood Red and attached with dimensionals.

The sentiment was stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and punched out with a circle punch, and layered on a circle of Riding Hood Red.  The charm was attached with a silver brad and the card was done!  I really like this sketch!

 

Now my second card is for Verve's Meet the Diva Challenge.  This week you can chat one on one with Jen del Muro!  Jen's challenge was to use purple as your main colour.  You know, I didn't expect it to be that difficult, but it was.  It was truly a challenge!

It all started the same way most colour challenges start.  I began to pull out all I had that was purple.  I had 15 different shades and styles of purple ribbon, eyelets, flowers, gems, fabric brads, glitter, glitter dots, designer papers, puffy paint and even more than I have time to list. 

Well, I decided that since I had never used my Purple Puffy Paint, I would pick that.  I thought it would make fun "icing" so I chose "Cupcake Affair" by Verve.  I stamped the cupcake twice, cut one out with an oval nestability, then proceed to cover the icing with Purple Puffy Paint.  WOW...it was purple.   As it dried it became clear that the only match was going to be Lovely Lilac...my most dreaded of the Purples. 

Well I was half way there having allowed my icing to dry and then heat setting it to get puffy.  Ewww...it didn't look at all like icing...When it was puffed with the heat tool, it was kind of dry and old looking...not quite what I thought icing should look like.  So I decided to add a little Crystal Effects to give it some shine.  Even when shiny, purple puffy paint does not look like icing.   You would think I had the sense to start again...but you just don't know how stubborn I can be!  So on I went.

Now to find something that goes with Lovely Lilac.  Nothing.  Absolutely nothing goes with Lovely Lilac.  I tried pink, blue, yellow, and although green seemed to work...it seemed like a halloween combo to me.  When else do you use Lovely Lilac?  Hmm...dig through my stash of scrapbooking papers...they are between 5 & 10 yrs old.  I find one that looks like it would work with Lovely Lilac, and it has green in it, but with flowers.  I decide to go with it, and hopefully it's not mistaken for a halloween card.  I use a really simple fall back layout and some Old Olive designer paper from the Green Tea paper pack, and end up with Old Olive ribbon...not the pile of purple ribbon on my desk to tie at the seam.

I colour the remaining portions of the cupcake in opposing colours then cut out the one cupcake and position it over the one in the oval with dimensionals.  The focal piece is layered on Old Olive then Lovely Lilac.  I picked the sentiment from Birthday Surprise and punched it out as an oval, and popped it up over a large oval.  Since the flower paper had purple speckles as part of it's design, I decided to get the Spritzer tool out and add the same to the cupcakes oval and sentiment.  I added a few gems...at least I used something from my stash that was purple, and called it done. 

On the upside, my 8yo loves it...and she has a birthday party to go to this weekend, so maybe this will actually be a good thing!!  I would love the card, if it weren't Lovely Lilac, and I won't blame Jen...because there are so many other purples and I could have changed direction at any time.  Rule #1.  It's only paper; it's OK to scrap it and start again.  Who's rule is that anyway?  Oh right...mine.
