It's time for the July 20 Key Ingredients release at Taylored Expressions, and Jami challenged us to create a home decor item or a house warming gift. Fun challenge! This month's key ingredients kit is so fabulous it lends itself to so many ideas with chipboard frames/flowers, fabulous papers and liquid pearls. Honestly, I had a hard time narrowing it down to one idea. Finally, I decided to go with a favorite house warming gift, and picked up a cute little flowering plant and went from there.
The plant is called a Kalanchoe. It's an indoor/outdoor plant; it can be outdoors in my neck of the woods, but doesn't like our cooler nights. It needs plenty of sunlight and water. The little flowers are like rosettes and I love flowering plants!
I knew I would have to transplant it, so I picked up a simple clay pot a size larger than the plant and decorated it before I transplanted it.
The rim is wrapped in the yellow polka dot print from the kit, and I created a fun polka dot design on the pot with the liquid pearls. I used two of the chipboard frames. The first I covered the inner circle with designer paper and the outside with cardstock. I stamped the little bird house from "Branching Out", coloured it with Copics and popped it up on the flower. The flower is adhered to a popsicle stick which was coloured green with copics and inserted into the soil. I tried to hang the little bird house but I couldn't make it work.
The second frame I covered the inner oval with designer paper and inked the outer portion. I didn't have a new home or congrats sentiment from Taylored Expressions, so I borrowed one from my SU collection and adhered it across the frame banner style. I stamped, coloured and cut out the flower from Beary Special Accessories and dangled it from the ric rac ribbon from the kit.
This little teddy bear from Taylored Expressions Beary Special gives me the warm fuzzies so I had to pull him out for the card to accompany my gift.
I stamped and coloured him with Copics, popping up the flower he holds. The designer paper is from the July 20 Key Ingredients kit as is the ribbon. I added three little beads of the liquid pearls to finish and that was it!
A sweet little housewarming gift! Now aren't you just dying to see what the rest of the team created? Me too! So let's have a peek!
