Are you like me? Do you have a love-hate relationship with designer papers? I love them, buy them, hoard them...some I'd like to use as wallpaper they're so gorgeous. But they can also cause me grief; making colours and patterns work together can be a challenge. Combining the designs of decorative paper is a challenge that many stampers often have. How do you do it successfully? This week on the Flourishes Newsletter, Leslie Miller will help us to see the patterns in decorative paper in a whole new and artistic way!
Well for my take on designer paper challenge, I was only too happy to see the fabulous sketch challenge on SCS! It was perfect for combining different patterns, and five of them to boot!
For this card I chose to work with Basic Grey's "Porcelain" paper pack. I just love it's soft pinks, yellows and greens. I used up a few scraps, since the strips are only 1", and they work together so well because they are from the same line. Plus with the strips being so small, one pattern doesn't overpower another.
My card base is Pretty in Pink, and the paper is layered on Mellow Moss. I pulled out an old favorite, Coffee with a Friend, and paper pieced the large coffee cup on the focal panel. The image is stamped in Versafine Onyx Black, and I tied some taffeta ribbon around the midsection and finished with a flower and button! I can honestly say, this was one of the quickest cards I ever made! So I decided to do another!
This time, I chose "Thinking of You" and Basic Grey's "Euphoria" designer papers. I love these paper pads. I have used this one over and over, and I still have tons left, plus I really wanted to use this fabulous May Arts ribbon! It's lavender organdy with velvet polka dots. Absolutely luxurious!
I went with Certainly Celery as the card base and layered the designer paper on Lavender Lace. Markers were used to colour the stamp directly giving a beautiful multicoloured image!
The sentiment was stamped in Lavender Lace keeping the card soft and comforting, and some Lavender pearls in the corners were the perfect finish.
After you pop into the Flourishes Blog to see what Leslie is up to, make sure you take a quick blog hop around to the rest of the design team, and see how they played with their paper!
