What happens when three Fabulous Friends get together at a Stampin' Up! regional event? Well, they challenge each other of course! Actually, I recalled when Beate and Sharon Harnist challenged each other to create something other than the simple demo card after they had attended a Stampin' Up! event. I thought it was kind of fun, and it stuck with me. So when Dawn, Christine and I got together last weekend at the Stampin' Up! regional seminar in Edmonton, I suggested we do something similar.
Here's what we started with, just in case you want to play along!
A card base of Confetti Cream
2 1/4 x 4" section of Watercolour paper
2 1/2 x 4 1/4" of Ruby Red (actually I thought it was Riding Hood Red..but it wasn't!)
a length of Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon
So the challenge was that we could add anything we wanted but we had to use the original pieces. We also said we would incorporate the ribbon rose that was presented as a WOW! The demonstration was presented by Heather, but that's all the info I have...I was so taken by the beauty and simplicity, I didn't note her full name! The stamp set used at regionals was from the new mini; "Soft Summer", however, I didn't stamp the image...I spent too much time talking, and gawking at all the fabulous artwork! Instead I used my "Wonderful You" set, and I decided I would keep it "SUO", adding only SU! products. Here's what I ended up with.
I stamped the image and watercoloured it with ink and an aquapainter. I finished by adding a soft wash in yellow, to make the white background of the watercolour paper more complimentary to the Confetti Cream. Once the image was completely dry, I dotted the stamen with my black marker. Then I cut 1/4" off the length and cut it into three 1 1/4" sections.
I layered each piece on Chocolate Chip and then Ruby Red. I added the sentiment, stamped on Ruby Red and punched out with the word window punch, to the bottom section with brads.
The border is Chocolate Chip scalloped with the border punch, and a strip of designer paper from the Bella Rose series. The Chocolate Chip ribbon features the ribbon rose, and I added a small halfback pearl from the Pretties kit with a glue dot. Now tell me, isn't that a WOW!!
I didn't add all that much; the Chocolate Chip paper, a 1" strip of designer paper, the word window punch, brads and a half back pearl.
Now how fun was that? Lots! I can't wait to do it again! Now be sure to pop over and see what Dawn and Christine came up with! Christine also has a quick tutorial on the Ribbon Rose, 'cus if you're anything like me, I couldn't wait to see how it was done!
