Another weekend, another weekend sketch set. I decided to dust off an old favorite and show it some love. "A Little Birdie Told Me" was a set I was so excited about when it first came out. It's cute, versatile and gives you the option of an inside verse, but it's been months since I used it. Funny how that happens. It's not usually that I stop liking a set, it just gets passed over for what's new and exciting. Actually, I thought this set seemed pretty new and exciting together with these fabulous sketches and the recently retired Maine Blueberry designer papers.
Taylor's Cupcake sketch is always first up Friday mornings, and it's almost always the first one I work with, so it will be the first one I share today. I love the simplicity of this sketch, and it works well with a larger image or a "scene" in my case. I stamped and watercoloured the birds twice, on watercolour paper. I cut out one set of birds and popped them up over those on the scene. I added layered ribbon and layered flowers and that was pretty much it. I left the inside sentiment "TBA", so I could use it for any number of occasions!
Recipe: Stamps: A Little Birdie Told Me (SU) Paper: Old Olive, Night of Navy, Watercolour paper, Maine Blueberry designer paper Ink: Versafine Onyx black Accessories: Scallop border punch, Old Olive & Navy grosgrain, felt fusion flower, aqua painter, reinkers, dimensionals, rhinestone brad (SU), Prima flowers
Next up is Amy's Friday Sketch. I actually fretted with this one for a while trying to incorporate the two little embellishments she has on the side, while still adding the sentiment. Finally, I asked myself, "who's card is it anyway?" LOL! Like I can't make a minor change to the sketch? You just have to know I'm internally built to be rule bound, and I have a hard time knowing when to bend or break them LOL! Sorry Amy, I just had to do it!
Other than that, the card was pieced together as per the sketch. I paper pieced the birdie this time and popped up the little flower. I used my Nestabilities to cut and layer the focal panel. Navy grosgrain is tied around the vertical panel and a fancy corner scroll was added for some added interest. I'm happy with it how it turned out...even knowing I left out those two embellishments!

Here's my take on Lauren's Saturday Sketch. This one I stayed very true to the sketch, adding the oval sentiment between the two upper embellishments.
The bird was stamped on watercolour paper in Versafine Onyx Black and watercoloured with ink and an aquapainter. The umbrella was paper pieced and popped up. The sentiment is popped up and anchored with two buttons tied with linen thread. The card base is Bashful Blue textured cardstock and the card size is 3 1/4" x 6"...fit's inside a long note envelope!
You know, I think this is SUO!! Stampin' Up! only! It's been a long time since I've been able to say that, and wouldn't you know some the paper and Navy ribbon have retired, so maybe it doesn't really count now anyway.

And finally, here is Jen's Sketch for you to Try , and one of my favorites this week. I just think these little birdies sure know how to party! I also pulled out a balloon punch that I've had forever, and honestly, I feel so good using some of this stuff I have!
I watercoloured the birds again, and popped up their little party hats. I debated on adhering them direct to the paper, since their dimension seems to create shadows, but I decided to leave it, because I like dimension!
I added some highlights to the balloons with my white gel pen, and gold cords tied off to the side. The sentiment was punched with the 3/4" circle punch and layered on one of the flowers punched from the designer paper. Rather simple actually, but I think it would be so fun for a young boy with the colours in these papers!

I really love creating these sets. It reminds me of making set samplers from my active demo days. I found (find) the more I used a set, the more comfortable and creative I became with it. I love this weekend's sketch set! I love the colours and the versatility of it, and it's just plain cute!
I hope you are winding down from a fabulous weekend. I am finally going to get going on some redecorating I've been saying I'm going to do for a while now. I want to paint the upstairs bedrooms and hall, and I purchased some fabric to make curtains. I don't sew much, but I have made curtains...pretty straight line sewing for those! So you may see a little less of me as I tackle this project althoug I still plan to reserve my evenings for stamping, if I can stay awake!
Have a wonderful day and thanks so much for dropping in!
Laura
