Today is the day! Dare to Get Dirty! I had so much fun with this set of challenges last year, it is an absolute thrill for me to be a part of it all this year! Our very first challenge is issued by Laurie Schmidlin, Lauraly on SCS, and her challenge is to use vellum. OK...I love vellum and I use it a fair bit, but when you challenge me I draw a blank. After a lot of shuffling paper and vellum around, here's what I finally came up with.
I have had the Spring Ephemerals set by Flourishes for a while, and I was itching to ink it up!
When Laurie mentioned vellum my thoughts went to the old coloured vellum that Stampin' Up! used to sell. I have a couple packages in several colour families that I haven't touched in years so I decided, that was the vellum I would use.
I started with Whisper White, and I embossed a frame with my old Fiskars cutter, and then since it was very hard to see on the white, I decided to just create an black box, so I filled in the score lines with a black marker. I masked off the box with post it notes and inked up the Bleeding Heart silhouette in Versafine Onyx Black stamped it in the box.
I cut three strips from the old Soft Subtles vellum pack, and positioned them over the silhouette, and adhered each section with gold brads. To balance the card, I used the ticket corner punch and placed brads in the corner of the Mellow Moss card base. The whisper white panel was then attached with dimensionals.
Very simple card, actually, and it turned out much as I had envisioned it. I wasn't to sure about including the words "bleeding heart" on the card, because I didn't want it to be misinterpreted as a sentiment. But it really seems to "fit", so I will just have to make sure I send it off to a gardener who will make the connection!
Have a fabulous Monday and thanks for dropping! I hope you are making plans to Get Dirty with us!
