Baby Wipe Technique
Really, this technique should be dubbed the most fun you can have with your ink! It is so fun, and each creation and colour combination giving unique and fun results. And you don't need much to do this technique. **Note you can enlarge any image by clicking on it;, I kept them small because this was a long article.
Supplies:
- Dish or container wide enough to put a stamp in
- Baby wipes...I used "Wet Ones", but any brand will do, although avoid the paper based products like the mini wet naps
- 2-3 Ink refills, for this tutorial I chose Rose Red, So Saffron and Taken with Teal
- Paper; I love Whisper White, vellum and glossy for this technique
Start by putting some wipes in the dish...I layered 3 of them, however if you have some of the thick cushy brands, you may only need one. They should be damp, not dripping wet.
Start by adding your ink drop by drop. The order doesn't matter, although it's my habit to save the lightest colour for last to sort of "fill in the blanks". You want to cover a large enough area of your wipe to ink your largest stamp with room to move. Trust me, you will love seeing the different looks you will get just moving your stamp to a different area of you "stamp pad"!
Add your ink drop by drop. As you can see, I did not worry that I have some open space...the process of stamping will help spread it out.
Now stamp! I recommend you tap your stamp with very
slight back and forth movements, which allows the colours to blend better. Isn't that totally cool? Don't forget to use the whole "pad". And stamp a few images while you're at it. Your temporary wipe pad, doesn't last forever, so use it while you have it! How about these:
Now when you are finished, don't throw it away immediately! Take your baby wipe and fold it or roll it up, and swipe it across some paper. For this, I prefer glossy, however, it can be done on regular white paper, if the wipe is still fairly juicy! Oh, and you might want to don some rubber gloves, for this because your hands are going to
get inky!
OK, now doesn't that remind you of a tropical sunset, or a tropical drink or a really fattening ice cream desert? So now let me show you what I made with all of these images!
I wanted to keep these really simple, because I didn't have so much time to fuss with them, plus I wanted the focus to be in the results produced by this fabulous technique!
This card was inspired, dare I say "Cased" from Kristina Werner. I enjoy her blog, and after a while, I swear some of her style rubs off on you!! Isn't that "Enjoy" just the coolest? I surrounded it all it's colours, Rose Red & So Saffron designer papers, and Taken with Teal. I also outlined it with my Taken with Teal marker...a design element I learned from Kristina!
Want More?? Ok, keeping it simple again, I used the "Happy" flowers on this one! I didn't want to fuss too much, so I just grabbed some scraps and worked with them. Each flower has a Felt Flower Fusion center and a So Saffron brad. I used our Eastern Elegance Rub ons on the Taken with Teal strip, and finished it with 3 Rose Red brads. Not my
usual style, but simple is good sometimes...right?
Here's a close up of the flower:
Did that not turn out so beautiful?
OK, here's one last idea for you to try before you throw away your baby wipe stamp pad. Try dyeing ribbon, or twill, or how about Pretties!!! All you need to do is lay your ribbon or pretties on the pad, (don't try to pull it through, you will get a blended colour...think purply mud!) Then press it in. You can press it in with a sponge dauber, so long as it doesn't get too polluted, I recommend the good old fingers! Inky fingers are good!
OK...so I'm saving the best for last!
So how is that for a grand finale! I used the glossy piece, layered on So Saffron as my background on Whisper White, and I added some Taken with Teal dots all around it. I wish I had done 3 Pretties, but alas I only did 2 so I added some felt flowers and a brad. I added some "Fruit Punch" stickles to the pretties...yes that's what this card reminds me of! I stapled some turquoise grosgrain ribbon to the tag, which was stamped with the baby wipe, and added the Smile circle and the small tag from the Be Happy set. The sentiment is from Small Sayings, a retired set.
This puts me in mind of a tropical paradise, I wish I was there now!
Oh, and come back later, I did today's colour challenge with the same technique, so you'll get to see another set of colours and images with this fantabulous technique! I'm lovin' it!

This is great. I just do not use this technique enough, thanks for the inspiration! I love how the flowers turned out. Gotta try this!!
